New cultural competency reports in ProQuest® Nursing & Allied Health Source Fosters Culture-Conscious Health care
ProQuest is pleased to announce that ‘cultural competency reports’ from CultureVision are now available in ProQuest® Nursing & Allied Health Source. This information is vital for health care professionals to confidently care for patients with diverse ethnic backgrounds and religious beliefs.
Jody Burton, ProQuest’s publisher for Health Sciences, explains, “The CultureVision reports provide health care professionals with a conceptual framework to promote awareness and respect for a broad range of cultural perspectives. This competence is being recognised worldwide as an essential factor in the provision of safe, quality patient care.”
The CultureVision documents are based on exhaustive reviews of scholarly literature and government reports. This dynamic resource is updated monthly, and currently contains reports relating to 30 different ethnicities and 11 religions. These reports include a list of suggested questions for the patient, which allow health care professionals to gain a better understanding of the patient’s needs, avoid misunderstandings, and improve treatment outcomes.
The Joint Commission (the U.S.’s hospital accrediting body) and the National Standards on Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services have asserted that providing health care services that are attuned to an individual’s cultural background “is a key factor in the safety and quality of patient care”. ProQuest® Nursing & Allied Health Source equips health care professionals to meet these changing standards.
The addition of the CultureVision content into ProQuest® Nursing & Allied Health Source is the latest example of ProQuest’s commitment to providing a resource that keeps pace with evolving industry requirements. Recently, critical evidence-based nursing content from The Joanna Briggs Institute and key educational finding tools such as Study Paths have been added to ProQuest® Nursing & Allied Health Source. Additional unique resources are also planned for 2009.
