Serials Solutions® KnowledgeWorks Improves E-Resource Access and Management at Medical Libraries
Serials Solutions today announced a series of medical resource enhancements to Serials Solutions® KnowledgeWorks™, the authoritative e-resource knowledgebase that will improve e-resource access and management at medical libraries. These enhancements include the addition of over 1 million National Library of Medicine eBook MARC records and Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) data to KnowledgeWorks, as well as a new feature supporting the PubMed LinkOut service within the 360 Link OpenURL link resolver.
"Over the past few years, we’ve been gathering suggestions from medical librarians so that we can improve our services and better meet their needs," says Nicole Pelsinsky, Serials Solutions Senior Product Manager for 360 MARC Updates, 360 Core and KnowledgeWorks. "With these new enhancements, we are able to provide more medical coverage and better serve our medical library clients and their patrons."
The Serials Solutions KnowledgeWorks e-resource knowledgebase now includes 1.2 million National Library of Medicine eBook MARC records, which will be included as a part of the Serials Solutions 360 MARC Updates eBooks service. Serials Solutions has also started development to include MeSH data within KnowledgeWorks. MeSH data will be added as a "subject browse" option within the 360 Core A-to-Z list before the end of 2009.
Additionally, as an enhancement for the 360 Link OpenURL link resolver, Serials Solutions has begun to provide XML holdings data to PubMed LinkOut to enable libraries to connect patrons from PubMed citations to full-text anywhere in the library’s collection. This is a free service available to subscribers of 360 Link.
"Use of PubMed LinkOut in conjunction with our accurate knowledge of client holdings is something our medical clients have been asking for," says Stephen DiStasio, Senior Product Manager at Serials Solutions. "It’s one of many steps we’re taking towards extending all of our solutions to serve specific library markets."
